The Roots Announce 2018 Picnic Lineup Starring Dave Chappelle, Lil Uzi Vert & Special Guests

The Roots and Live Nation Urban team up to present the eleventh annual “Roots Picnic” June 2, 2018 at Festival Pier in Philadelphia, PA.

Tickets will be available beginning Friday, February 16th at 12pm ET. For more details, click HERE. The full confirmed lineup can be found below. CITI card members will have access to a presale February 14th at 10am ET through February 15th at 11:59pm ET, click HERE.

Celebrating its eleven-year anniversary, the festival once again aligns music, art, fashion, comedy, wellness, and consciousness into a cultural experience unlike anything else on the scene. “Roots Picnic” remains known for careful curation that unites music’s hottest acts, influencers, tastemakers, and thought leaders for one unforgettable day—and this year proudly continues that tradition.

Once again, The Roots raise the bar with their flagship fest. The groundbreaking GRAMMY® Award-winning multiplatinum hip-hop collective will headline the proceedings with a very special “Jam Session” hosted by Dave Chappelle, with a set accompanied by surprise guests. This will be the first time the legendary comedian joins his longtime friends at the annual extravaganza following a string of knockout sold out Radio City Music Hall shows together in 2017.
In addition to performances from superstars such as Lil Uzi Vert, Dirty ProjectorsThe Diplomats2 ChainzDvsn, Brandy and more, the day includes a bevy of one-of-a-kind moments exclusive to “Roots Picnic.” Among those, fans can enjoy Black Thought’s Live Mixtape feat. Fabolous Jadakiss in what promises to be a display of pure lyrical fireworks, while DJ Drama presents Gangsta Grillz with special guests. In game-changing fashion, this is the first year of the Podcast Stage which plays host to live podcasts such as Drink ChampsOn One with Angela RyeQuestlove Supreme, and more. Going beyond music, the Lifestyle Stage offers a MADDEN & NBA2K Tournament hosted by iPod King Carter as well as a Fashion Panel, an Art PanelHustle Panel and an art market featuring local vendors called The mARkeT.
The festival, which is produced by Roots founding members, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tarik “Black Thought” Trotter along with Shawn Gee, Roots manager and President of Live Nation Urban, notably follows another sell-out for Live Nation Urban with the 2018 Broccoli City Festival in Washington DC.

“This year we’ve tried to vary the non-musical elements of the lineup. We see so many homogenous festival lineups, and we’ve always prided ourselves on trying to create unique moments for the Roots Picnic attendee that they can’t see anywhere else. The Roots headline collaborative set is always unique, and in addition we are very bullish on the podcast space, so we’ve decided to dedicate and program an entire stage with some of the best culturally relevant podcasts." Says Shawn Gee, The Roots longtime manager and President of Live Nation Urban

The annual “Roots Picnic” festival remains just as unpredictable, undeniable, and unique as The Roots themselves. Since launching in 2007, it has stood at the crossroads of music and culture, entertaining, engaging, and enlightening millions of fans along the way. Its dynamic lineups have included everyone from The Weeknd, Pharrell, Snoop Dogg, Phantogram, Usher, Nas, A$AP Rocky, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Future to Vampire Weekend, The War On Drugs, Gary Clark, Jr., Solange, Diplo, Gnarls Barkley, and more. “Roots Picnic” isn’t just a cornerstone of the group’s career, but a cornerstone of the culture.
